Live Returns: No returns will be posted until the polls are closed. This is normally at 8:00pm Pacific Time, although the polls may be kept open later by court order. Shortly after the polls have closed on election night (5-30 minutes), this on-line server will begin receiving new return updates every five minutes.

Getting Around: As you can see from the TABS above, the on-line returns are segmented into the various races. If you select Congress, Senate or Assembly, you will be presented with a numeric selection pad. Use this pad to view the returns for a district or click on "All districts on one page" to see the returns for all districts at once. Be aware, though - the "all districts" pages are rather large and will take longer to download.

To navigate between districts use the three buttons at the bottom of each district race page.
The LEFT button takes you to the Previous district.
The UP button takes you Back Up to the district selection pad.
The RIGHT button takes you to the Next district.

Finding Districts: If you don't know which district you are interested in, but you know the county, links have been provided to help you find Congressional districts , Senate districts and Assembly districts.

Staying Current: Each time you move to a new page you will automatically be shown the most recent returns. However, if you are interested in just one race and stay on that page, you will need to click on the refresh button every 5 minutes or so to get the latest returns. Do not use your browser's "Reload" or "Refresh" button - you will only get the same old information. Each page displays the date and time of the latest server update.

Maps: For the statewide races - President and Propositions - maps are available that display the winning candidate (Yes or No for propositions) and their percentage of the vote for each county in the state. In order to see these maps, click on "View map" on the right side of the page.
